How to Maintain Your Grill Burners

from:

Grill burners are often referred to as the heart of the grill and takes the worst of the grilling process. They are subject to extremely high temperatures. Burners are considered the most frequently replaced grill parts, but you can actually make them last a long time with proper maintenance and care. Regular use can also count towards maintenance as it gets rid of moisture build up and other food acids.

Gas grill burners come in a variety of shapes, materials, and styles and the one you will see most often is the H Burner, so called because it is shaped like an H. There are oval burners and bar burners. The shape of the gas grill burner determines the distribution of the flame while barbecue grilling. New burners tend to burn very yellow since they have to burn off the oils from manufacturing.

Burners are constructed in different materials keeping in mind resistance to corrosion due to heat. Each grill manufacturer offers a different warranty for its burners ranging from three years to lifetime warranty. A burners life depends on how it is used, how it is maintained and environmental conditions.

That said you will find burners made of aluminized steel which is generally used in the basic grills. There are porcelain coated steel burners and stainless steel burners used in a variety of grilling equipment from the basic to the advanced since steel comes in different grades and thicknesses. Cast iron burners and cast brass burners are also available. The cast iron type is made out of solid molded cast iron. These burners need proper maintenance since there are prone to drying and flaking. Cast brass burners are usually used in the higher end cooking grill equipment.

Usually a wire brush is used to clean the exterior of the gas grill burner. This helps to remove any corrosion or food residues. Sometimes the gas holes get clogged. If the burners are damaged or badly corroded, they must be replaced right away.

Burners are easily available from all the grill equipment manufacturers. If you want replacement burners for a Uniflame grill, to make sure that you get the right Uniflame gas grill burners it is best to look for it by model number. Charmglow natural gas grill burners are easy to get since the Charbroil fifteen inch grill burner kit is suitable for Charmglow as well as Sunbeam, Fiesta, etc.

The Brinkman BTU stainless steel grill feature burners are excellent burners for cooking in style. This gas grill equipment has four stainless steel gas burners that total 48000 BTUs in addition to a 13500 BTU side burner. Brinkman grill replacement burners can be ordered online from their website. Charmglow and Uniflame also make BTU stainless steel grill feature burners.

Since outdoor gas grill burners are exposed to different seasons they must be inspected regularly and cleaned. It is the only way you can enjoy cook outs without hitch with a grill that functions efficiently and safely. Unless the burners flame burns evenly around the burner at all its control settings, it is not safe. Also, make sure the grill hood is open when you light the burner. Later, when the lid is closed the flame burns blue with a little bit of yellow from the burner holes. This is okay so long as there is no soot or carbon deposit. If the flames do happen to be too yellow and burn irregularly, it means the oil residue has not burnt off. It is also possible that the venturi tubes are not in the right position on the opening or adjusted properly. This must be attended to right away by getting a replacement or ensuring that it is cleaned before cooking.
