If you are planning for a 4th of July BBQ or any other outdoor event you may want to consider the outdoor cooking Dutch Oven. Is cooking for a crowd a problem? Here is the solution… the Dutch oven makes cooking for a big group a cinch. The outdoor cooking Dutch Oven is a pot made of metal with thick walls. It is made of cast iron and has a lid that fits tight. In the Australian bush it’s known as a 'camp oven', and a cocotte in France. Dutch ovens can be made of aluminum or cast iron. An Australian 'Bedourie oven' is not made of cast-iron, but steel instead, in order to make it more convenient for carrying. Cooking in an outdoor cooking Dutch Oven is a fun way to make new friends and socialize with people also. With that great smelling meal, you will have the neighbors drawn for a bite! Face it food draws people together so it has to be good.

During the early seventh century, the Europeans used cast metal pots for cooking. It has been said that the early Dutch trader’s cast iron pots must have given named the "Dutch Oven". In 1805, the Lewis and Clark used Dutch ovens to prepare their food as they wondered the undiscovered American continent.

Mountain men who explored the American frontier used outdoor cooking Dutch Ovens during the late 1800s. These men’s used the leg-less ovens for cooking a variety of foods. Foods included animals, plants and other staples.

Cooking in a outdoor cooking Dutch Oven is more fun because it is so easy and is also relatively uncomplicated.
